I'm a fan of the Canadian jazz duo Four80East and in 2013 they issued a challenge to make a video to go with a track 'The Walker' from their new album 'Off Duty'.
My songwriting partner Laurie and I rose to the challenge and the result can be seen here. Four80East made it joint winner, for which we received an autographed set of their albums.
What happens when you lose your temper with a jigsaw.
Be sure and watch the outtakes at the end!
The guitar I’m playing is a hand painted replica of Eric Clapton’s famous 1967 psychedelic ‘Fool’ guitar made by The Painted Player.
This was our first attempt at a song video and we learned a lot from the experience.
I decided to write and record a pastiche of the wonderful psychedelic sounds of the 60s, complete with dampened drums, Mellotron sounds, backwards guitar solo etc., and this is the result. Alternative title: 'Echoes of Strawberry Lucy'!
You can find the lyrics and technical notes of how I went about recording the song over on my web site johnsongs.com. Listen on headphones for maximum enjoyment! Relax and float downstream.....
I just bought this limited edition (of 1,962) Epiphone 50th Anniversary 1962 Sheraton E212T.
I'm improvising over a blues track so you can hear what it sounds like on the different pickup combinations.
